Upcycled Bulletin Board
I improved my woodworking skills through creating a large cork board with remnant wood from a bed frame!
Goal
Create a cork board to hang my US map poster
Own a 50″ x 32″ poster map of the United States
Enjoy hanging it and adding pins to the places I’ve traveled to
This damaged the wall behind it, so I purchased cork sheeting
The cork sheeting would not stick to the wall and looked sloppy
Planning
Source remnant wood from a bed frame (found in a dumpster on campus) and scrap material in MakerSpace
Sketch drawing of bulletin board based on dimensions of poster and sourced materials

Come across a discarded bed frame to use for source material.

Dry wood and remove hardware. Check with metal detector.

Cut 1/8" wood sheet to size on table saw.

Experiment with spray adhesive for cork-wood joint.

Use spray adhesive to glue cork to back board.

Sand down remnant wood.

Cut to length on miter saw.

Fit up edges around backboard to ensure fit.

Stain frame edge pieces.

Glue board together with many clamps.

Reinforce backboard.

Voila!
